ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) has launched a new version of its website, dps.mn.gov. The site has been redesigned and rebuilt to better serve

 Minnesotans. Improvements include: 

• Easier access to the most popular DPS tasks and services
• Clearer paths to find information
• Improved search capabilities 
• Easier-to-understand content
• A clean, modern design that is mobile friendly

This site is the result of more than a year of work by over 150 staff.

“A user-friendly website strengthens trust, improves transparency and enhances our ability to connect with communities across the state. It's about making sure the right information is accessible to everyone, whenever and wherever they need it,” said DPS Commissioner Bob Jacobson. “A well-designed website is essential for serving the public effectively. It provides quick, easy access to vital information and services, ensuring that Minnesotans can make informed decisions about their safety.” 

What will users be able to find on the new site that wasn’t there before?  

• Information on our Missing and Murdered Black Women and Girls Office  
• Information on how to connect with our Community Affairs team  
• Tribal relations information  
• Information on the Office of State Safety Oversight  
• A more robust newsroom with the latest information about what we are doing in communities across the state  
• Enhanced accessibility for documents 

The public still can: 

• Renew their driver's license and buy tabs  
• Request information on background checks
• Get our latest news and updates
• View crime stats 
• Get a crash report 
• Sign up for our Safety First newsletter 

The DPS public website has not had a comprehensive update since it was launched in 2011. The site was not mobile friendly, the navigation was not user friendly, and the general design was outdated.  

This new site corrects those issues and provides a firm foundation to create new features and enhancements to keep the website and its content relevant, engaging and responsive to user needs . 

“A modern, accessible website is more than just a convenience — it’s a critical tool for ensuring public safety. By making information easy to find and understand, we empower Minnesotans to take proactive steps to protect themselves and their communities,” said DPS Deputy Commissioner Cassandra O’Hern. “Our new website reflects our commitment to accessibility and delivering the highest level of service to all.”
