About AGE

The Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement (AGE) division is a law enforcement agency that oversees both the regulation of alcoholic beverages and gambling throughout the state of Minnesota.

Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement responsibilities:

Alcohol Enforcement unit:

  • Issuing manufacturing/wholesale licenses.
  • Reviewing applications and approving some retail licenses.
  • Pre-licensing: Background checks and education.
  • Serving as the statewide repository for various retail license records.
  • Investigating alcohol-related complaints.  

Gambling Enforcement unit:

  • Licensing of manufacturers and distributors of gambling devices.
  • Gambling criminal enforcement and investigation.
  • Assuring compliance with state tribal compacts.
