What we do

The Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement division (AGE) is made up of sworn special agents and non-sworn liquor investigators who help oversee both the alcohol and gambling industries throughout the state of Minnesota.

AGE plays a crucial role in investigating crimes and violations associated with both legal and unlawful forms of gambling, oversees the licensing of manufacturers and distributors of gambling devices and ensures compliance with state tribal compacts.

AGE also oversees and enforces regulations in regard to issuing alcohol licenses and permits. The alcohol division of AGE is responsible for pre-licensing background checks, educating applicants and conducting inspection and compliance visits to licensed liquor establishments. Our special agents also help investigate underage consumption and unlicensed alcohol sales.

Jon Anglin is the interim director of AGE and has been with the division since 2005, most recently as special agent in charge. In that role, he provided statewide leadership in the enforcement of alcohol and gambling laws, supervised investigative operations, managed the division’s budget, and oversaw policy development and implementation.

During his time with AGE, Anglin has led the development of Minnesota’s online licensing and brand registration systems. He has also played a key role in reviewing legislation, advising on Tribal gaming compacts, and ensuring compliance with the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.

Prior to joining AGE, Anglin served as a police officer with the Hermantown Police Department in Minnesota.

Anglin holds a master’s degree in information systems from Minot State University and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from North Dakota State University. He also is a graduate of the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy and the Leadership in Police Organizations program.
