Ignition Interlock Device Program program guidelines
New July 1, 2025
The Ignition Interlock Device Program (IIDP) is available to those convicted of certain vehicular homicide offenses.
Drivers can apply for and begin the program without paying reinstatement fees. Participants do have to pay reinstatement fees to have their license fully reinstated, and the ignition interlock restriction removed.
In addition, submitting a copy of the substance use disorder assessment and proof of enrollment in any programs is no longer required for the initial enrollment in the IIDP. However, all program participants that are required to enroll IIDP by Minnesota statute must complete a licensed substance use disorder treatment or rehabilitation program as recommended in the substance use disorder assessment to be eligible for reinstatement.
A first-time offender or an offender with only one prior impaired driving incident in over 20 years, who voluntarily enrolls in IIDP, is not required to submit an assessment or complete a treatment or rehabilitation program.
