A class C vehicle may pull a trailer that is less than 10,000 pounds GVWR.
Examples of Class C vehicles are shuttle buses, small school buses, or cars and trucks that transport hazardous material.
Apply for a class C CDL
To apply for a class C CDL, you must:
- Hold a valid class D license.
- Pass the required written tests for a Commercial Learner Permit (CLP).
- Take additional written tests to add endorsements and avoid restrictions.
- Apply and pay for your CLP.
- A class B CLP is issued instead of a class C because the same written tests are needed for both.
