There are fees associated with different motor vehicle transactions. These include transfer transactions, title transactions, plate fees and fees associated with registration.

Title fees

Type of fee	Cost	Details
Filing fee	$12	Due with each title transaction.
Technology surcharge	$2.25	These funds are used to develop and maintain the driver and vehicle services information systems. Due with each title transaction except when the only change is the addition or removal of a lien holder.
Local office surcharge	$1	Charge for transactions processed at a deputy registrar.
Title fee	$8.25	Due on all initial applications for title and title transfers, including:  Each time a title is issued Repossessions Corrections on titles Name changes
Wheelage tax	Varies by county	Visit  Wheelage tax.
Expedited processing	$20	Optional fee, due only if you request expedited service.
Electric vehicle surcharge	$75
Duplicate title fee	$7.25
Duplicate lien card fee	No Fee	There is no fee for a duplicate lien card. However, a deputy registrar may charge the filing fee.
Duplicate registration card fee	$1
Grant of security interest (lien)	$2	Due for each security interest (lien) recorded.
Late transfer penalty	$2	Due if a transfer is not submitted within 20 calendar days of the sale date.
Non-title transfer	$3
Public Safety Vehicle (PSV) fee	$3.50	Not due on transfers of non-titled trailers.
Assignment of security interest	$2
Release of security interest	Varies	No fee if submitted with another transaction.   However, the filing fee is due to clear a lien from a title.
Transfer tax	$10	Not due on these applications: To transfer from joint to single ownership (the fee is due to transfer from single to joint ownership) In a licensed dealer name (if held for resale) In the name of a government entity In the owner’s name listed on the out-of-state title or registration card For vehicles weighing less than 1,000 pounds
Salvage inspection fee	$35	Due for inspections of salvage vehicles only.
Initial non-titled utility trailer registration tax	$55	Permanent one-time registration.
Initial non-titled utility trailer plate fee	$2.50	Plate is an adhesive sticker that is affixed to trailer.
Non-titled utility trailer title/transfer fee	$3	Due with initial application for title and title transfers.

*A single license plate is only available for a passenger vehicle if the vehicle is a model year of 1972 or earlier and used for general transportation; is used for general transportation and meets the definition of a pioneer, classic or street rod vehicle; or, is registered in one of the collector classes: Pioneer, Classic Car, Collector or Street Rod.
