Duplicate vehicle title application
A duplicate title is issued when the original title has been lost, mutilated, stolen, destroyed or becomes illegible and the owner applies for a replacement. It contains the legend: "This Duplicate Certificate of Title may be subject to the rights of a person under the original certificate."
Issuance of a duplicate title invalidates all previously issued titles.
How do I apply?
Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS) will only issue a duplicate title to the owner or legal representative (power of attorney is required) of the owner named on the original title.
In Person
You may apply in person at any deputy registrar. Most deputy registrars can print same-day duplicate titles in the office. If same-day titles are not available, it will be printed and mailed from the central office.
Locate an office offering same-day duplicate titles. Select ‘same-day duplicate title’ in the service field.
By Mail
If you are unable to visit a deputy registrar office in person, the application and fees can be mailed to DVS.
Please complete, print and sign the Application for Duplicate Title.
Total fees due when mailing to DVS are $21.50. Make checks payable to DVS.
Total fees include:
- Duplicate title: $7.25
- Tech fee $2.25
- Filing fee: $12
A $1 surcharge is due if processed at a deputy registrar office.
