Vehicle titles
Minnesota has issued titles for motor vehicles since 1972. The title serves as proof of ownership for your motor vehicle. It is needed when transferring ownership, including adding or removing a lien holder.
Title not received
If you have not received your title within six-months, your application for duplicate title will be processed at no fee.
Duplicate titles
A duplicate title is needed when the original title is lost, mutilated, or stolen and the owner must apply for a replacement. It contains the legend: "This Duplicate Certificate of Title may be subject to the rights of a person under the original certificate."
Apply in-person
You may apply for a duplicate title at a deputy registrar office. To have your duplicate title printed on the same day, select “Same-Day Duplicate Title” in the service dropdown.
