Vehicle title adding or removing a security interest or lien
The term security interest (lien) refers to an agreement between the vehicle owner and the lender (lien holder), using the vehicle as collateral.
When a secured party (lien holder) is documented on a Minnesota title, the title is mailed to the owner of the vehicle and a lien card is mailed to the lien holder. Transfer of ownership cannot be completed without the lien holder’s authorization.
