Minnesota Sexual Assault Exam Payment program

In 2023, the Minnesota Legislature shifted the responsibility for paying the cost of sexual assault examinations to the state. Payment processing is the responsibility of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Justice Programs (OJP) through the Minnesota Sexual Assault Examination Payment Program (MSAEPP).

Notice to sexual assault victims seeking medical care or a forensic medical examination

Medical service providers must provide a notice to sexual assault victims containing information about their crime victim rights, payment obligation for the forensic sexual assault exam, civil protective order options, and important supportive resources. The following model notice, developed in conjunction with the Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault, the Minnesota Chapter of the International Association of Forensic Nurses, and the Minnesota Hospitals Association, is designed to provide comprehensive and consistent information to all sexual assault victims seeking services from Minnesota hospitals with the aim of reducing confusion and ensuring victims know where to get help. It is provided is Word and PDF form.
