Bureau of Criminal Apprehension

A Division of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety

The BCA will be closed to the public beginning on Monday, March 30, effective until further notice. The BCA has made this temporary change to help ensure social distancing for members of the public and BCA staff. Gov. Tim Walz issued an executive order for Minnesotans to stay home to help limit the spread of COVID-19.

Applicants must have a valid government-issued identification (State issued driver’s license or ID, U.S. Passport, U.S. Active Duty/Retiree/Reservist Military ID, etc.). If your ID is expired, remember to bring your renewal slip or you will not be able to get fingerprinted.

Immigration Forms Requiring Photo

Some immigration forms require applicants to provide both fingerprints and a photograph. Individuals wishing to be fingerprinted at the BCA for this purpose must provide the immigration form with the photo already attached. The BCA will not fingerprint individuals who submit immigration forms that do not have a photo attached.

Fingerprinting for DHS Background Studies

If you require fingerprinting for a Minnesota Department of Human Services background study, please contact DHS for a list of locations where the fingerprints may be obtained. The BCA cannot complete fingerprinting for this purpose.

Fingerprinting Minors

Individuals who need fingerprinting for a minor child should first contact the BCA for specific requirements.
