More about the ​​Minnesota School Safety Center

The Minnesota School Safety Center (MnSSC) is a program of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety's Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division. The MnSSC's mission is to assist schools prepare for, respond to, and recover from all-hazard emergencies. The MnSSC is a free resource, legislative funded to provide services to all Minnesota k-12 schools including; public, private, charter and tribal schools. 

 

The MnSSC offers a variety of resources and services, including: 

Training and classes

  • The MnSSC offers free training and courses to their school, public safety and emergency management partners. 

Facility assessments 

  • The MnSSC  provides onside safety assessment of school buildings and grounds. They have created a self-guided checklist that schools can use to evaluate their facilities for both strengths and weaknesses. 

Emergency operations plan reviews 

  • The MnSSC offers reviews of school and district emergency operations plans (EOPs) and a guides conversation for developing robust, all-hazard emergency operations plans. 

Collaboration with other organizations

  • The MnSSC works with the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), School Safety Technical Assistance Center, and Restorative Justice Program.
