ST. PAUL-- The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office has positively identified the man who died after an officer involved shooting incident in Minneapolis on Thursday, July 14. Andrew Tekle Sundberg, 20, died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to information released by the office.
In addition, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) has confirmed the identities of the two Minneapolis police officers who discharged their weapons during the incident:
- Officer Aaron Pearson fired his department rifle. He has been with the Minneapolis Police Department for eight years.
- Officer Zachary Seraphine fired his department rifle. He has been with the Minneapolis Police Department for five years.
The BCA is continuing to investigate what led to the officer involved shooting, and investigators are aware of a bystander who captured video of what appears to show the moment of the shooting. Several news outlets in the metro have aired a redacted version of the video, but BCA agents have been unable to view the footage in its entirety. In the interest of conducting a thorough and complete investigation, the BCA is asking the person who filmed that video—along with anyone else who has pictures, video or audio recordings of the incident—to share them with investigators. Video, photos and audio can be submitted here.
