ST. PAUL – A months-long investigation by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) led the Beltrami County attorney to file charges against former Hubbard County Commissioner Daniel Stacey. The BCA is now encouraging others who may have had contact with Stacey to come forward as part of an active and ongoing investigation.
Stacey is charged with felony second-degree criminal sexual conduct and felony distributing via electronic communication material that relates and/or describes sexual conduct to a child. The investigation started after the mother of a boy Stacey claimed he mentored alleged that Stacey showed him pornography and encouraged him to take part in lewd acts.
Stacey's past roles include work as a Boy Scout leader, a bus driver in the Nevis Public School District and a mentor at youth homes. The BCA is concerned there are other victims or witnesses who might have information about this case. “We understand that it's difficult for crime victims to come forward and tell their story," said BCA Superintendent Drew Evans. “Victim-survivors will be believed and support will be available should they choose to share their information."
