License plates
License plates must be displayed on the front and back of passenger vehicles, commercial trucks, vans and recreational motor vehicles.
A single plate is acceptable for passenger vehicles if the vehicle is:
- Model year 1972 or earlier and registered in passenger class.
- Registered in a collector class: pioneer, classic car, collector or street rod.
One license plate is required to be displayed on motorcycles, mopeds, recreational trailers, commercial trailers, semi-trailers and most farm trailers.
Plate display
Passenger license plates are required to be displayed horizontally and in an upright position with the identifying numbers and letters facing outward. The expiration month is in the lower left corner, and the expiration year is in the lower right corner.
Registration must be purchased by the last day of the expiration month. The registration stickers must be affixed on the plate no more than 10 days after that.
Duplicate or specialty license plates
You can change your license plates at any time. Visit your nearest deputy registrar office to request duplicate plates or change your plates. You can also change plates or request duplicate plates online, but not all plate changes can be done online.
