Types of Dealer License Plates
Standard Dealer License Plate
Issued to licensed dealers for vehicles held for resale by the dealers. The vehicle may be operated by the dealer, dealer's spouse or any full time employee for private or business reasons. Prospective buyers may operate a passenger vehicle for 48 hours or a truck for seven (7)
days. Purchasers may use the plate for 72 hours after purchase.
Vehicle In-transit License Plate
Issued to licensed dealers to be used for transporting vehicles from dealer's source of supply to dealer's sales or storage facility, or to another dealer
Drive Away In-transit (Transporter) License Plate
Issued to licensed drive away contractors (Persons or firms engaged in the business of transporting motor vehicles under their own power).
Manufacturer Demonstration Plate
Issued to motor vehicle manufacturers for cold weather testing of motor vehicles in Minnesota.
Double Plate Issue
All other vehicles are issued double plates to display on the front and back of the vehicle. This includes cars, vans, pickups, trucks and buses.
