Related NewsBeginning on January 1, 2012, owners of off-highway motorcycles (OHM) can convert them for on-highway use and self-certify that the conversion meets all the requirements for use on public roads and highways. In the past this conversion could only be done with a given kit and certified by the manufacturer that built the motorcycle. Now the owner can make this certification themselves. However, the owner needs to be aware that many requirements must be met.
DVS has created a certification checklist and a list of frequently asked questions to help ensure these motorcycle owners meet all requirements. Once the physical conversion is completed, the owner can register the OHM with DVS. A prerequisite for this registration is to have current registration with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The registration with DNR must be maintained in order to maintain the registration with DVS.
