Minnesota Statute 299A.785 was passed in 2005, requiring the Dept. of Public Safety to complete annual studies of human trafficking in Minnesota. Specifically, this statute requires information on:
- The numbers of arrests, prosecutions and successful convictions of traffickers and trafficking related offenses
- Statistics on the number of trafficking victims, including demographics, method of recruitment and method of discovery
- Trafficking routes and patterns, states or countries of origin and transit states or countries
- Social factors that contribute to and foster trafficking, especially trafficking of women and children
