Radiological Emergency Preparedness

The mission of Homeland Security and Emergency Management's Radiological Emergency Preparedness (REP) program is to ensure that the health and safety of the public is protected in the event of a radiological incident at the Monticello or Prairie Island nuclear generating plants.

This is a comprehensive program that includes annual training of:
  • State agencies
  • Emergency managers
  • Emergency workers
  • Hospital & ambulance personnel
  • Schools

FEMA evaluated full scale exercises are conducted every other year for each nuclear generating plant to demonstrate reasonable assurance that plans and procedures are in place to ensure the health and safety of the public can be protected in the event of a nuclear power plant incident.

The REP program also conducts emergency plan reviews to make certain state agencies, local jurisdictions, and the utility are ready to respond should an incident occur.
