Monthly Preliminary Fatal Crash Numbers

December 2020 Preliminary Fatal Crash and Fatality Numbers

  • There were 30 fatal crashes in December, compared with 27 last year.
  • There were 30 fatalities in December, compared with 31 last year.
  • Of the 30 fatalities:
    • 0 person died in distracted driving-related crashes.    
    • 10 people died in speed-related crashes.        
    • 10 people died in an alcohol-related crash.                  
    • 11 people died who were unbelted.         
    • 22 were men, eight were women.
    • 5 were a pedestrians.             
    • 0 were bicyclists.​
    • 0 were motorcyclists.   
  • 1,395 motorists were arrested for DWI in December, compared with 2,365 in November 2019.

Year-to-date Fatalities (January-December)  

  • Preliminary numbers show 370 traffic crashes in 2020, compared with 333 last year. 
  • 395 people were killed in traffic crashes in 2020, compared with 364 in 2019.  
  • Of the 395 fatalities:
    • 30 people died in distracted driving-related crashes.               
    • 118 people died in speed-related crashes.         
    • 109 people died in alcohol-related crashes.                                   .                                                             .                              
    • 102 people died who were unbelted.                  
    • 285 were men, 110 were women.
    • 36 were pedestrians.    
    • 9 were bicyclists.
    • 57 were motorcyclists.           
  • 22,653 motorists were arrested for DWI in 2020, compared with 27,975 in 2019.
