Monthly Preliminary Fatal Crash Numbers

April 2019 Preliminary Fatal Crash and Fatality Numbers

  • There were 16 fatal crashes in April  compared with 23 last year.
  • There were 18 fatalities in April compared with 26 last year.
  • Of the 18 fatalities:
    • 1 person died in distracted driving-related crashes.    
    • 6 people died in speed-related crashes. 
    • 4 people died in an alcohol-related crash. 
    • 5 people died who were unbelted. 
    • 12 were men, 6 were women. 
    • 1 was a pedestrian. 
    • 0 were bicyclists.
    • 1 was a motorcyclist.
  • 2,084 motorists were arrested for DWI in April, compared with 2,027 in March 2018.

Year-to-date Fatalities (January – April)  

  • Preliminary numbers show 85 people have been killed in traffic crashes in 2019, compared with 85 last year. 
  • Of the 85 fatalities:
    • 9 people died in distracted driving-related crashes.   
    • 18 people died in speed-related crashes. 
    • 14 people died in alcohol-related crashes.    
    • 17 people died who were unbelted. 
    • 53 were men, 32 were women. 
    • 15 were pedestrians. 
    • 0 were bicyclists
    • 2 was a motorcyclist
  • 8,571 motorists were arrested for DWI so far in 2019 (January – April), compared with 8,488 through April 2018.
