Monthly Preliminary Fatal Crash Numbers

March 2021 Preliminary Fatal Crash and Fatality Numbers

  • There were 29 fatal crashes in March, compared with 24 last year.
  • There were 30 fatalities in March, compared with 24 last year.
  • Of the 30 fatalities:
    • 0 people died in distracted driving-related crashes.    
    • 13 people died in speed-related crashes.        
    • Four person died in an alcohol-related crash.                  
    • 10 people died who were unbelted.         
    • 19 were men, 11 were women.
    • 3 were a pedestrians.             
    • 0 was a bicyclists.​
    • 1 was a motorcyclists.   
  • 2,145 motorists were arrested for DWI in March, compared with 1,830 in March 2020.

Year-to-date Fatalities (January-March 2021)  

  • Preliminary numbers show 73 traffic crashes in 2021, compared with 60 last year. 
  • 76 people were killed in traffic crashes in 2021, compared with 64 in 2020.  
  • Of the 76 fatalities:
    • 2 people died in distracted driving-related crashes.               
    • 31 people died in speed-related crashes.         
    • 16 people died in alcohol-related crashes.                                   .                                                             .                              
    • 24 people died who were unbelted.                  
    • 55 were men, 21 were women.
    • 9 were pedestrians.    
    • 1 was bicyclists.
    • 1 was a motorcyclists.                    
  • 5,632 motorists were arrested for DWI in 2021, compared with 6,330 in 2020.
