Monthly Preliminary Fatal Crash Numbers

December 2019 Preliminary Fatal Crash and Fatality Numbers

  • There were 23 fatal crashes in December, compared with 30 last year.
  • There were 24 fatalities in December, compared with 35 last year.
  • Of the 24 fatalities:
    • 0 people died in distracted driving-related crashes.    
    • 4 people died in speed-related crashes.   
    • 5 people died in an alcohol-related crash.   
    • 6  people died who were unbelted.    
    • 17 were men, 8 were women were men
    • 7 were pedestrians. 
    • 0 were bicyclists.
    • 0 were motorcyclists.  were motorcyclists.
  • 2,395 motorists were arrested for DWI in December, compared with 2,365 in December 2018.

Year-to-date Fatalities (January-December)  

  • Preliminary numbers show 364 people have been killed in traffic crashes in 2019, compared with 381 last year. 
  • Of the 364 fatalities:
    • 27 people died in distracted driving-related crashes.               
    • 71 people died in speed-related crashes.      .    
    • 102 people died in alcohol-related crashes.                              
    • 72 people died who were unbelted.   
    • 235 were men, 129 were women. 
    • 50 were pedestrians. 
    • 11 were bicyclists 
    • 44 were motorcyclist 
  • 27,975 motorists were arrested for DWI  in 2019 (January-December), compared with 26,825 in 2018. That's a 4.2 percent increase.
