Monthly Preliminary Fatal Crash Numbers

March 2020 Preliminary Fatal Crash and Fatality Numbers

  • There were 17 fatal crashes in March, compared with 21 last year.
  • There were 28 fatalities in March, compared with 22 last year.
  • Of the 28 fatalities:
    • 1 person died in distracted driving-related crashes.    
    • 7 people died in speed-related crashes.   
    • 3 people died in an alcohol-related crash.       
    • 3  people died who were unbelted.    
    • 18 were men, 6 were women, 4 not reported.
    • 4 were pedestrians.   
    • 2 were bicyclists.​
    • 1 was a motorcyclists. 
  • 1,830 motorists were arrested for DWI in March, compared with 2,374 in March 2019.

Year-to-date Fatalities (January-February)  

  • Preliminary numbers show 62 people have been killed in traffic crashes in 2020, compared with 61 last year. 
  • 69 people that have been killed in traffic crashes in 2020, compared with 66 this time last year.  
  • Of the 69 fatalities:
    • 4 people died in distracted driving-related crashes.               
    • 17 people died in speed-related crashes.      .    
    • 13 people died in alcohol-related crashes.                                .                              
    • 16 people died who were unbelted.       
    • 49 were men,16 were women, 4 were not reported. 
    • 12 were pedestrians.    
    • 2 were bicyclists 
    • 1 was a motorcyclist 
  • 6,330 motorists were arrested for DWI so far in 2020 (January-March), compared with 6,487 in 2019.
