Inspections

What we do

We help local fire and law enforcement and the public with fire inspections. Here is some more information about our inspection teams:

Fourteen inspectors and two supervisors cover day care facilities, hotels, motels, resorts, and public K-12 and charter school inspections in Minnesota.
Another team of eight inspectors and one supervisor inspect Minnesota health care along with two inspectors for correctional facilities.
Three inspectors and a supervisor inspect fire protection systems.

Health care inspections
School inspections
We inspect each of Minnesota’s roughly 1,750 public and charter school buildings once every three years, including primary, middle, secondary and alternative schools.
Day care and foster care inspections
We inpsect day care and foster care centers in cities and towns where the fire department does not do inspections.
Correctional facility inspections
We inspect Minnesota's correctional facilities and all facilities the commissioner of corrections is required to inspect and license or authorize to operate in Minnesota.
Residential care facility inspections
Hotel and motel inspections
We inspect hotels and motels in Minnesota to prevent fire deaths and property loss.
